Homestay Management Training for Tourism Villages in Bulukumba

Bulukumba, RBB (25/11)–In supporting the progress of tourism, Bulukumba Tourism Department in South Sulawesi, this time conducted Homestay Management Training through Tourism Service Activities, precisely at Anda Hotel in Tanjung Bira, started from November 24 till November 26, 2020.

The participants are 40 people who are from Kahayya, Tana Toa, Darubia, Tamatto, Bira, Bukit Harapan villages and members of Bulukumba PHRI (Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association).

This event was opened by Mr. Junaedi Abdillah–Assistant II representing the Bulukumba District Secretary. In his short speech, Mr. Junaedi really appreciated this Homestay Training by stating that it was expected to be able to provide excellent services to guests and maximize local products in the home stay. For example, in terms of culinary or tour packages. Other development ideas can be continued.

Meanwhile, Mr. Muh. Ali Saleng as Head of the Bulukumba Tourism Department explained the importance of tourism development which was carried out in parallel both physically and non-physically–increasing human resources. Tourism will develop faster if these two things mutually support one another.

The same thing was also stated by Mrs. Andi Ayu Cahyani when delivering the Committee Chief Report by saying that the implementation of this homestay training was an effort to improve the competence of human resources of tourism actors with the hope that all were competent in providing tourism services so that the tourists who visited Bulukumba could feel more enjoyable.

Meanwhile, Mr. Andi Aryono, the Chief of PPTK (Technical Implementation Officer for activities), said, “The quality of the training on the first and second days is explained by Makassar Polytechnic College trainers because they have competence and teaching to homestay participants. And on the third day, the speaker is from South Sulawesi PHRI because PHRI knows well how to manage the home stay.”

The first step in developing home stay will be implemented in Kahayya Village. “There are 18 people from Kahayya—the largest number of participants.  Frankly, it is because there are 15 to 19 homes willing to make their homes as home stays,” said Aryono. In the future, Bulukumba which has a variety of tourism potentials in various villages can also create manys home stays to increase the attraction of visitors to feel more comfortable traveling.

Related to the issue of the Corona pandemic terror, the Bulukumba Tourism Department is still able to carry out its training properly by complying with standard health protocols. “From 3 trainings, this is the last training in 2020; Dive Training, and Destiantion Management and Homestay Management “, continued Aryono.

As additional information, several Pokdarwis (Tourism Awareness group) in Bulukumba have been formed by the The Heads of Villlages. According to Mr. Aryono, “Those Pokdarwis have already existed in Kahayya, Tana Toa, Bukit Harapan and Darubia villages.” Each Head of Villlage who is interested can also make Pokdarwis in their own villages. “Bulukumba Tourism Department will confirm with a Decree for each”, added Mr. Aryono who is also the Head of the Section for Institutional Tourism Relations at Bulukumba Tourism Department.
